Ujung Kulon National Park (TNUK) has once again achieved an outstanding international accomplishment. At the Center of Intelligence, Directorate General of Law Enforcement (Ditjen Gakkum) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Manggala Wanabakti Building, Jakarta, on 17 October 2025, TNUK received the prestigious Asia Environmental Enforcement Recognition of Excellence (AEEE) 2024–2025 award, organized by the UN Environment Program (UNEP).

The event was held online and opened by CITES Secretary-General Ivonne Higuero, with Sallie Yang from UNEP serving as the moderator. The AEEE is an award initiative led by UNEP in collaboration with several international organizations, including:

- The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL),

- the Secretariat of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal,

-  the Secretariat of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora),

- the Secretariat of the Minamata Convention on Mercury,

- the Ozone Secretariat for the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol,

- the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP),

- the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC),

- the World Bank Global Wildlife Programme, and

- the World Customs Organization (WCO).

Award recipients of the AEEE 2024–2025 came from various countries, including Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, India, Shanghai, and Singapore.

Rasio Ridho Sani, Deputy Minister for Pollution and Environmental Damage Control at the Ministry of Environment (KLH/BPLH), represented Indonesia at the award ceremony.

This award recognizes Ujung Kulon National Park’s success and commitment to environmental law enforcement, particularly in handling the poaching cases of the Javan Rhino (Rhinoceros sondaicus)—an endemic Indonesian species classified as critically endangered and now surviving only within the Ujung Kulon National Park area.

Ardi Andono, S.TP., M.Sc., Head of Ujung Kulon National Park Authority, expressed his gratitude and pride for receiving this award. “This award is the result of the hard work of the entire TNUK team, together with law enforcement agencies (the Indonesian National Police, the Indonesian Armed Forces, Pandeglang District Court, and Pandeglang District Prosecutor’s Office), our partners, and the local communities who have been committed to protecting the Javan Rhino. This is not only international recognition of our conservation efforts but also a reminder that wildlife protection is a shared responsibility,” said Ardi.

Ardi further emphasized that the Park Authority will continue to strengthen on-the-ground monitoring, expand collaboration with law enforcement agencies, and enhance community participation in supporting conservation and park management.

This achievement reflects strong synergy between field personnel, law enforcement agencies (the Indonesian National Police, the Indonesian Armed Forces, Pandeglang District Court, and Pandeglang District Prosecutor’s Office), conservation institutions, and local communities, who actively work together to safeguard the natural habitat of the Javan Rhino.

With this AEEE 2024–2025 award, Ujung Kulon National Park is expected to be even more motivated to reinforce its commitment to preserving nature and upholding laws related to the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems.

This award is not only a recognition for Ujung Kulon National Park but also a pride for the entire Indonesian nation, reflecting the country’s dedication to protecting the world’s biological richness and species diversity.
